“With Danny’s continued support, I’ve grown in confidence and strength (mentally and physically), and realised that putting limits on myself was only holding me back. It’s really quite empowering to be working with Danny, I love the challenge and I love the training.”
Towards the end of last year a new opportunity came about at Prime Mover – the ability to train with the man and legend himself, Danny Pilkington. There were loads of questions from members about what it would be like and a lot of people remarked there was no chance they could handle it.
I mean his Met Attack classes are hardcore, so imagine actually training WITH him. It would be even crazier, right? Well, our member Sarah Burren decided to find out for herself. She signed up in November and has trained with Danny almost every week since.
Below she shares how this experience has positivity impacted her and why she feels that everyone could benefit from training with Danny as well. Sarah says…
What were your expectations going into it?
After signing up, my initial thought was, “what the hell have you done?” I think Danny is known for being pretty hardcore, and I thought the sessions might be too tough for me to get through. I think it’s fair to say that I was really nervous about the kind of training that we’d do and what his expectations of me would be.
How does that compare to what it’s actually like to TWD
I was right, Danny is hardcore and the sessions are tough, but there’s so much more to it than that. Danny tailors the training to a level that challenges and pushes me but is totally achievable. He knows when I have more in the tank and when I don’t. It’s a really supportive and encouraging environment, and not in any way scary or intimidating. The workouts, whilst tough, are awesome. I expected to have to work hard, but I didn’t realise how much I’d enjoy doing it!
What have you learned from TWD?
I’ve learned a lot from training with Danny, including technique and new exercises, but mostly I’ve learned more about myself. With Danny’s continued support, I’ve grown in confidence and strength (mentally and physically), and realised that putting limits on myself was only holding me back. It’s really quite empowering to be working with Danny, I love the challenge and I love the training.
What’s your favourite memory from your TWD sessions?
Aside from Danny’s unforgettable dance moves, my favourite memory is being surprised at what I could actually do, and getting that sought after praise from the man himself! One of my favourite things about this training though is the partnership element. Danny is doing everything alongside you, which means you can also “shout encouragement” to him if you think he’s resting a tad too long. It’s so rewarding!
Describe TWD in 3 words
Totally worth it.
What’s your favourite type of exercise and/or session that you guys do?
I’d be lying through my teeth if I said tyre drags were top of the list, but, I do love a good snatch (lol)! Seriously though, I do, it’s my favourite! I’ve really taken a liking to lifting things in general, so any kind of weight based exercise with the bar always appeals to me. It’s really encouraging to see and know that you’ve progressed.
Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, without any hesitation. My general confidence and strength has massively improved – who would have thought that I’d be swinging that heavy black kettlebell around? Certainly not me, but I can and I do! Danny is fantastic and very supportive, and in all honestly, it’s one of the best things I’ve done and couldn’t be without it now.
