I would imagine that most of you know her, and if you don’t know her then I’m sure you have at least heard her infectious laugh. Today we’re sharing the awesome health journey of our lovely member, Kate Clarke, the only member who gives me a run for my money on the loudness factor 😉
If you watch the impressive way Kate trains in sessions (lifting heavy weights, sprinting fast, jumping high!), you would never guess she suffers with the autoimmune disease, Lupus. Below Kate has shared her PM story and how much she has changed both physically and mentally since joining the #ONETRIBE last July.
How have you changed since beginning with Prime Mover?
For a start, I look totally different physically. I’ve dropped two dress sizes, so I’m now a size 8 (sometimes a 6). The main thing for me in terms of physical change though is that I now don’t have to take as much medication as I used too. I was on really strong painkillers everyday and now I don’t have to take them most days. I used to wake up with pains in my joints to every night and some days I would struggle to walk around. Now I run or ride my bike all over Sheffield.I feel much happier and less stressed. I used to be on a lot of Steroids and I don’t have to have them unless I get sick. I have been well for six months, which for me was a record. I haven’t gone that long without having a flare up in eight years. Mentally, I feel stronger and more confident in work and in myself generally. I feel much happier and less stressed.
What is your favourite type of PM workout to do?
I love core because I enjoy the exercises and I really want to work on my mummy tummy. Recently I started doing Spartans and SIN classes which are fun too. Saturday SIN is crazy. The lads pick really random music and I get the telling off nod from Dom when I’m dancing about too much, but the great thing really is that you can see the progress straight away as you move up weights.
What is your favourite exercise to do at PM?
I love to flip the tyre. I don’t know why but it just seems like playing rather than exercise.
What is one thing you couldn’t do when you started that you’re awesome at now?
There was so much I couldn’t do but everyone told me I would get there. I have always struggled with squat thrusts but I’m OK at them now.
If you had to describe PM in 3 words they would be:
Supportive, Challenging, Amazing.
What is the most valuable thing PM has taught you?
It doesn’t matter how strong you think you are, you are no good to anyone if you aren’t looking after yourself first. Ask for help, someone will answer and be there.
