We have a special anniversary post to share with you guys today. This coming Tuesday (15/08) one of our super special Movers will have officially been with us for one year, and what a year it has been for her!
You all know her and no doubt you love her (I mean, how could you not?!), our fab trainer Jacqui! Some of you may not know this, but just a year ago Jacqui joined PM as a 21DT member. She fell in love with it all so much that she left her long-term career and spent the next six months working her bum off to follow her dreams.
Feel like it’s too late to make big changes in your life and career? Well, this girl will prove you wrong! Read Jacqui’s inspiring story below 🙂
What has your experience at PM been like?
Wow, where do I start? After not exercising or eating healthy for quite some time I decided to join last August to try and get myself out of that rut. I was the heaviest I had ever been, I felt miserable and depressed. I had also become quite self-conscious to the point where I didn’t like the way I looked. My confidence had taken a dive.
After seeing an ad on Facebook for the 21DT I entered my details without really knowing what it was, I just knew I needed to kick start my health & fitness again. I needed to get my mojo back! Scotty rang me and we chatted at length (wow, I thought I could talk!), he then signed me up to start the following Monday. I was so excited, but still didn’t really know what I was embarking on.
My first session was with Danny, oh my god, I thought my chest was going to burst. My heart was racing so fast! I had never done a HIIT workout before and I left shaking, but I felt amazing and couldn’t wait for my next session. I stuck to the nutrition and training religiously throughout the 21 days and really stared enjoying my new found skills of doing 101 things with cauliflower! I became a fully-fledged member after the 21DT.
Everyone I met, from trainers to members, were so friendly, inspirational, and encouraging. It was like nothing I had ever experienced before. The comradery and support that they provided not only grew my confidence, but left me feeling eager to be a part of this special community. This was something I so needed in my life. I used to listen in awe of the trainers and what they did in each session, I found them all so interesting and inspiring.
In October I decided to join the 6 Weeks to Christmas program with the lovely KK. I had already lost two stone at this point and was ready to take it up a notch. I loved KK’s program so much and learned loads about exercise and nutrition. I have now done every one of her programs since then.
I have made so many new friends, and not just the add on Facebook type of friend, but real true friends that share similar stories to mine and I know they will be life-long friends too!
How has your life changed since joining PM?
After a month I could see a difference, not just in my appearance but I was becoming happier in myself. I became more focused, I was thinking more clearly, and I was making better food choices. I had I had found something I enjoyed and had a great interest in!
I became so much fitter, stronger, and leaner that I had to buy new clothes since everything was too big! I had also made a lot of new friends and all I ever talked about was what I had done in the gym or what I was eating.
Eventually people started to ask what I had been doing and asking for tips & advice on exercises and nutrition, which got me thinking – could I do this as a job? I mean, I had been in retail since I left school, it was all I had ever known. I was so fed up with my work life by the end of last year I had a few teary days as I was so unhappy and stressed at my work, I just didn’t want to go anymore. I wanted to spend my time with my new friends and at the gym.
I thought long and hard about what to do over the Christmas period. My friends and family told me I should just do it, they thought I would be great at it! So, I decided to take the leap back into education. I had not studied for over 25 years and the thought of exams made me feel nervous. I decided to sign up to become a personal trainer and learn as much as I could so I could follow a path I should have done years before! I left my job in February to fully focus on my studying and I have not looked back since.
What have you learned since joining PM?
I have learned so much about nutrition, exercise, and how to challenge & push myself out of my comfort zone. PM has given me the push I needed in every direction. It opened my eyes to exercise, healthy eating, and a new way of life.
I can’t thank PM enough, it has truly been life changing for me. I have learned and experienced so much working with the trainers here. I still can’t quite believe it sometimes that this time last year I was overweight, unfit, and unhappy in my job.
What’s your favourite memory of PM?
One funny one that sticks out in my mind is when I did my first Scotty Dirty Dozen on a Saturday. I was already covered in bruises, but didn’t know why, so I asked Scotty and he simply said: “Welcome to Prime Mover, you’ll get used to it!” I remember finding that session so tough I had to go home and take a recovery nap!
Another big one for me was back in March when Danny called me over after a MetAttack class and asked if I would like some experience in taking sessions to possibly start working as a trainer on Sunday’s at PM. I was blown away, it meant so much to me. I was both excited and scared at the same time, but I wanted it badly. I was up for the challenge, I wanted that red jumper!
Where do you hope to be with PM and your own journey in another year’s time?
I don’t know really, who knows where it may go! I am a fully qualified PT, which feels really good to say – proud moment! I love working for Prime Mover from coaching sessions to recruiting new members and 21DT sales. I just love to share my experience with new members and hope that I continue to develop and grow too.
What’s your favourite type of class to teach and why?
To be honest, I love taking them all! Although I don’t specifically teach them, I think it would have to be Spartan. I like being able to challenge the members and push them a little harder than usual through the exercises I set. I like to get the big tyres out! I also love Coregasm too, I try to come up with a different, unusual core exercise each week.
Describe PM in three words:
Life changing experience.
What advice would you give someone who’s just starting out on their journey at PM?
It’s just 21 days of your life and in that time, if you follow the program, you will lose weight and centimetres. You’ll need a new wardrobe, you will think more clearly, make better choices, and gain so many new friends. What have you got to lose?
Just keep focus and don’t give up! If you have a wobble, that’s fine, just jump back on and keep going. We will all help and support you!
I don’t know about y’all, but I felt pretty emotional reading Jacqui’s story! I have had the pleasure of working alongside her for the past year and know how hard she’s worked to get where she is now. Congratulations from the whole PM team, Jacqui. We love you big time!
