After being thrown numerous curve balls in her life this year, Alexis decided it was time to do something for herself for once. As a single mum, Alexis is always on-the-go making sure everyone else is happy, but what she didn’t realise was that she was leaving herself behind.
Now that she’s experienced one of our Life Changing Retreats herself, she’s returned to England with a new lease of life. She kindly shared about her experience with us…
What inspired you to book onto the retreat? Was it health, fitness, mindset, something entirely different?
After hearing such good things about the last retreat, I thought that I would give it a try as I am a single mother and wanted some me time but did not want to go on your average girl’s holiday. I had progressed at PM with everything from my general health and fitness to mindset that I thought that it would be perfect to try a retreat to really reach to further depths of fitness and mindset and to find out more about myself.
Based on the reason you booked the retreat – did you accomplish what you initially came for?
I really did accomplish what I set out to do. I found out more about me and how it is OK to admit it is important to take time for me. I found out that I’m actually capable of so much more than what I thought I was.
What was your favourite part of the Lanzarote retreat?
My favourite part of the retreat was the training. It pushed me to places I didn’t realise I was capable. Anyone who knows me at PM knows I say that “I can’t run.” Well that theory went out the window when I ran up at a Volcano!!
Whenever I used to run I would be running saying in my head “I can’t” which panicked me and stopped me from pushing myself to do it. Little did I know that it was more mind over matter.
I liked all of it for different reasons, though. I enjoyed the Yoga and meditation, though the Kundalini Yoga wasn’t quite for me but I still did it and it made me realise that going into your own space is good for you.
The food was AMAZING anyone thinking that you wouldn’t get fed enough would be wrong. Scotty and his food are just sensational! I also liked how we worked as a team when we needed to. We all respected each other and knew when the other needed support or some space.
What is the biggest thing you took away and/or learned from the trip?
The biggest things I took away from the retreat is that I am capable of far more than I believed I was and to have more confidence. I also learned that it is absolutely OKAY to need time for yourself and to not feel guilty about it.
Were you surprised by anything during the retreat?
Nothing surprised me, no. I was so relaxed that I just went with the flow and put my all into the experience.
What would you tell someone who was thinking about doing the retreat, but feeling unsure?
I would tell anyone who was thinking of doing it to just go for it. It may sound like a lot of money initially, but it was worth every penny! What you get back from it has so much more value. You could not put a price on what I have taken away from the retreat.
How has the retreat impacted your life now that you’re home?
It has made me ensure that I have ‘me time’ and realised it is OK to put myself first. When you are always busy looking after others and making sure you keep everything going, you seem to forget about you. Well don’t. A happy you, makes a more content functioning household/life. I am not saying all my stresses have gone away, but I am saying that it has made me re-evaluate situations and sometimes a different approach can make a better outcome.
I would like to thank everybody from the retreat who made it unforgettable. I truly had a fantastic week (I could have stayed longer)! Girls and guys, if you are able to take this opportunity do it! You will not regret it!
