We want to wish a mega happy first anniversary with Prime Mover to one of our most loyal and dedicated members, Barrie (Big Bad Baz!) McAllen. If you know this guy (and I’m sure almost all of you do!) you’ll agree with me when I say – he is the real deal.
Since starting the 21 Day Transformation at Prime Mover last February, Baz has seen incredible progress. Not only has he shed a load of body fat, losing 14cm from his abdomen and 10.5cm from his waist, but he has also put on a solid foundation of muscle as well. Baz does five sessions per week, which are a mix of MetAttacks, Spartans, and Performance sessions.
Below he shares the story of how Prime Mover helped him come off of his anti-depressants and learn how valuable of a person he truly is both inside and out! Baz says…
How have you changed since beginning with Prime Mover?
Physically, I am a lot stronger and fitter. Mentally, my confidence has improved and my outlook is much more positive.
What has been your biggest health/fitness related achievement since joining PM?
Since joining Prime Mover I have been off anti-depressants for nine months now, after battling with depression for many years. I have now grown to love myself and have a brighter outlook on life.
What is your favourite exercise and why?
My favourite exercises are sprints and plate pushes. I quite like tyre flips too. Why? Because I’m weird. Seriously though, I find these are really good for releasing some stress. Plus, I love a good a good leg burn!
What is one thing you couldn’t do when you started that you’re awesome at now?
When I first did a MetAttack with Danny I nearly coughed up a lung after one round of sprints. Now I can nail them and look forward to any session that has sprints in it. I also struggled doing box jumps onto the smallest step, but luckily Scotty was there to hold my hand. I can now jump on to the large box with confidence.
If you had to describe PM in 3 words they would be:
Tough, Fun, Friendly, Supportive, Amazing, Inspiring, Life -Changing. Sorry but three words are just not enough to describe Prime Mover for me.
What is the most valuable thing PM has taught you?
What would you tell someone who was thinking about progressing beyond MetAttacks (Spartan, Performance, SIN, Strong & Lean, etc.)?
Go for it! I love Spartans and Performance. Also, Strong & Lean with Danny is awesome. Don’t be scared. You will be supported all the way, and it’s good for progression.
What keeps you motivated to keep coming to the gym so consistently?
To be a role model for my daughter and to be as fit and healthy as I’ve ever been. It wasn’t that long ago that I was having four Red bulls a day, along with Snickers, and Mcdonalds too. Not to mention vast amounts of alcohol at the weekend.
What is your most memorable moment at PM?
Pushing myself from the start to be fit enough to pass fit tests 1, 2, and 3. I have a lot of memorable moments at Prime Mover, but over everything for me it’s the people that make it such an amazing place. I feel so proud to be part of it and will continue to bore the hell out of my friends about the place.
What is your biggest health/fitness related goal for 2017?
To continue to improve my fitness levels. I’d like to take myself out of my comfort zone and get into running. I’d also like to lower my body fat percentage. I’m hoping to get somewhere between 14-17%.
